Samhain

This is the time of year when we remember and honour our Ancestors.  The time of year when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest.  A time of reflection as the year comes to an end and a time to make resolutions for the coming year.

If one has had a lot of negativeness during the past year now is the time to step forward from the darkness into the light of the new year.

Blessed be

Item List for Ritual

Candles:   Can be either Black, Purple or White

Pomegranate ~ Apple ~ Mead or Wine

Knife to cut Fruit  ~  Small Salva to hold fruit after cutting  ~  Chalis

Photographs of any loved ones passed that you wish to remember

Items to decorate altar:  Autumn Leaves, Conkers, Chestnutes, Pumpkin, Pine Cones, Incense

Ritual

Stand in the middle of your circle and rid your aura of any negativeness.  Breathing in raise your arms above your head with the palm of your hands together.  Now slowly breathing out turn your palms outwards and with arms stretched wide lower your arms to your side and when fully lowered shake your hands and let all the negativeness be swept away by the Element of Air.

Cast Circle:   With your Athame, Staff or Besom walk around the circle three times marking your boundary saying   ~   I cast this circle in a place that is not a place,  at a time that is not a time   ~

Call Quarters:   East   ~   I call upon the Lords of the Watchtowers of the East, Element of Air to come forth this Samhain Night to guard and protect this circle   ~  Hail and Welcome

South   ~   I call upon the Lords of the Watchtowers of the South, Element of Fire to come forth this Samhain Night to guard and protect this circle  ~  Hail and Welcome

West   ~   I call upon the Lords of the Watchtowers of the West, Element of Water to come forth this Samhain Night to guard and protect this circle  ~  Hail and Welcome

North   ~   I call upon the Lords of the Watchtowers of the North, Element of Earth to come forth this Samhain Night to guard and protect this circle  ~  Hail and Welcome

Return to centre of Circle:  We stand at the doorway of the New Year in a place that is not a place and at a time that is not a time.  In this doorway, we are neither in the past or the future, nor are we in our accustomed world.  But are in the eternal present in the Summer Lands, the Lands of the Dead, the Realm of Ancestors.

We look behind us at the past year and assess what we have done with our year and what we have failed to do.  We remember Friends and Loved Ones who have gone beyond the Veil.

We welcome The Lady who gives rest and healing, who opens her arms and welcomes the dead, and who guides us all to rebirth.

We welcome the Lord of The Wild Hunt, the Gatherer of Souls, Son of the Night, who leads the spirits of the Underworld on a merry chase to gather the lost and wandering and lead them home.

With this Lantern and by its light I welcome you spirits this Samhain Night.

Cauldron Ritual:  Having previously written prayers and wishes and hopes for the coming year on a piece of paper, now burn this in the couldron or other suitable fireprove container.    Step back and raise the energy  ~ I normally do this by drumming and when I feel the time is right, I stop and throw my arms in the air signifying sending the prayers forth to be carried by the Element of Air to my Gods.

Next hold the Pomegranate  saying:

Behold the Fruit of Life which is Death.

Then cut it in half scooping out the seeds onto a salver and give to each person in the circle saying

 Taste the Seeds of Death

Next hold the Apple saying:

Behold the Fruit  of Death which is Life.

Then cut the Apple in half and hold it up say:

Behold the Fivefold Star of Rebirth.

Cut the Apple into pieces and give to each person in the circle saying:

Taste the Fruit of Rebirth.

Put the Mead or Wine into the Chalis and give to each person in the circle saying:

Sip the Drink of Life.

All join hands around circle.

Here is the circle of rebirth.  Through me all pass out of life and through me all may be born again.  Everything passes, changes.  Seed becomes Fruit:  Fruit becomes Seed.  In birth we die:  on death we feed.  Know Me, and be free of all fear.  For my womb is the Cauldron of rebirth,  in Me the circle is ever turning.

Blessed Be
